FMI, one of the nation’s most influential advisors to engineering, construction and the built environment, predicted that total engineering and construction spending in the U.S. would end up at 6 percent in 2018, forecasting to be led by nonresidential segments. It was also predicted that the western U.S. region would experience the second-largest growth. In support of that prediction, and capping off a banner year of growth, Barnhart-Reese Construction successfully delivered four project completions for government and private clients.

For the University of California – San Diego, BRC built a new warehouse facility, consisting of 5,400 square-feet of new construction to match the existing Community Engagement Core (CEC) Environmental Management Facility. The facility was built to store up to three hundred 44-gallon, lidded, plastic barrels of non-hazardous medical waste on a single level electric conveyor system. The loading dock was built to be capable of handling both a twenty-seven-foot long box truck and a fifty-three-foot long truck and trailer.

Construction is nearing completion for Naval Base San Diego’s renovation of two existing buildings. The work included renovating portions of a 13,000 square-foot second floor, and 6,000 square-feet of fourth-floor building space, including upgrades and reconfiguration of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, communication and fire-suppression systems for office and conference spaces.

BRC constructed a new 10,027 square-foot Social Hall, and a 944 square-foot extension to the exterior for St. Demiana Christian Church of San Diego’s Del Sur campus. The project included both educational and worship areas. The Church is moving into the space this week.

The fourth project completion was for Grossmont Union High School District’s Mt. Miguel High School, a structural concrete package for CM on a multi-prime project, including earthwork and grading, structural and site concrete, masonry, structural steel and metal fabrications, structural wood framing and asphalt paving for a new Student Support and Events Center.
