The John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green serves the residents of Coronado, California. This 8,800 square foot senior activity center houses administrative offices, clubroom, activity room, assembly room, lounge, kitchen, restrooms, as well as storage for both indoor and outdoor activities. The center shares the facility with the Coronado Lawn Bowling Club, which has jointly used the space with the Coronado Senior Center since 2010.
The new building was constructed on the site of the existing Senior Activity Center, directly adjacent to the Coronado Public Library. The Center takes full advantage of the outdoors, with a large expanse of windows providing views from the Orange Avenue entry to the lawn bowling area. Western Hemlock wood ceilings give a warm and inviting feeling to the space, and are featured in the main entry into the grand multi-purpose Activity Room and in the ceiling clerestory of the Lounge and the Clubroom.
