Bio

Mr. Barnhart founded his former flagship company, Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc, and grew it into one of the top ten educational builders in the nation. Prior to founding the company in 1983, he served as a Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer, responsible for US Government administration of construction contracts and public works administration at major Navy shore installations and as a Vice President for a major Southern California contractor.

Very active in the community, Mr. Barnhart currently serves as Chairman on the County of San Diego’s Planning Commission. He was a Governor’s appointee and past chairman of the California Contractors State License Board, and is a former Commissioner of the California Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Commission. Mr. Barnhart also served on the San Diego Super Bowl Host Committee and has been a member of the Del Mar Fair Board. He served two terms as President of the San Diego AGC, is currently a National AGC Board Member and served on the National AGC Executive Committee for four terms. Most notably, he is a past president of AGC of America and the first and only president to hail from San Diego County.

Mr. Barnhart brings his 40+ years of construction expertise to guide Barnhart-Reese Construction. Highlights of his construction resume include Petco Park, Lindbergh Field Terminal 2 Expansion, Sharp Chula Vista Campus Cancer Center, San Diego Chargers Park and Training Facility, SDSU College of Arts & Letters, SDSU Tony Gywnn Stadium, San Diego Convention Center Expansion and Sails Pavilion Enhancements, USD Shiley Theater Renovation, Viejas Casino & Turf Club, Poway Library and City Hall, as well as non-profit projects such as the original YWCA Becky’s House, Jr. Achievement BizTown and Ronald McDonald House of San Diego. Doug’s vast experience with preschool, K-12, community college and university facilities in Southern California is unmatched locally, amassing hundreds of educational projects.
